2008年3月11日，根據(jù)國(guó)務(wù)院機(jī)構(gòu)改革方案，國(guó)務(wù)院組建工業(yè)和信息化部，由李毅中任部長(zhǎng)。將國(guó)家發(fā)改委工業(yè)行業(yè)管理有關(guān)職責(zé)，國(guó)防科工委會(huì)核電管理以外的職責(zé)，信息產(chǎn)業(yè)部和國(guó)信辦的職責(zé)，整合劃入該部；國(guó)家煙草專賣局與新組建國(guó)家國(guó)防科技工業(yè)局亦由工業(yè)和信息化部管理。2008年6月29日上午10時(shí)，工業(yè)和信息化部正式掛牌。
